Rosegarden - MIDI sequencer and musical notation editor

'Rosegarden' is a musical notation editor supporting multiple staffs with chords, manual and automatic beaming, dynamic markings, slurs, ties, textual marks, triplets and other conveniences. It includes a MIDI sequencer and editor with textual event and piano roll display, with tool integration so music in MIDI form can be viewed and edited as notation, and notation can be sequenced.

The package includes an implemented scripting language (`Petal') for writing filters to process MIDI tracks and notation staffs. It can also output Csound and musicTeX output for typesetting and printing with human intervention. Your own MIDI playing program can be used on systems where the built-in playback is unavailable or inadequate.

There is a new branch of rosegarden: the rosegarden-4 branch (http://rosegarden.sourceforge.net/) is completely new development that is currently very alpha. Rosegarden 2.1 (reviewed here) is older but stable and quite usable.
