Gnomeicu can be used to send messages to other people over the internet. In addition, Gnomeicu can be used to transfer files, URL's and contact lists. Gnomeicu can be used to chat with other people over ICQ. This section details the basic usage for Gnomeicu.
Starting Gnomeicu opens the Main window, shown in Figure 1.
Gnomeicu is an instant messaging application, based on the ICQ protocol. Each ICQ user has a unique contact number, or UIN. This is used to identify users in addition to other information such as nickname and e-mail address. Messages, Files, URL's and contact list can be sent between other ICQ users. This section details how to use the basic ICQ functions.

To send a message to someone over ICQ see the section called Sending a message
To send a file over ICQ see the section called Sending a File.
To send a URL over ICQ see the section called Sending a URL.
To chat with someone over ICQ see the section called Chatting.
Gnomeicu comes with a panel applet, shown in Figure 2. This panel applet shows your current status and also shows the number of users online. Left clicking on this panel applet will bring up the main window if it is hidden.
When a message is received, the panel applet changes to look like the one shown in Figure 3. It now shows how many messages are unread.
The menu bar, located at the top of the Main Window, contains the following menus:

Add Contact —this command brings up the add contact dialog, which allows a user to add a contact to their list.
Connection History —this command brings up a dialog showing the connection history for the ICQ session.
Options —this command allows the user to configure preferences for Gnomeicu.
Change User Info —this command allows the user to change the information for the current user.
Hide Main Window —this command hides the main window. Left clicking the panel applet brings the main window back again.
Exit —this command exits the program.
This menu contains:
Ignore List —this command brings up the ignore list dialog, which allows users to add contacts to their ignore list.
Visible List —this command brings up the visible list dialog, which allows users to add contacts to their visible list.
Invisible List —this command brings up the invisible list dialog, which allows users to add contacts to their invisible list.
Online Notify List —this command brings up the online notify list dialog, which allows users to add contacts to their online notify list.
