/* SOAD version 3.3.0 Q: How can I set the keyboard layout in SOAD? A: If you're using E17 - try the "language" module. It works, though doesn't accept the Ctl+Shift or Alt+Shift shortcuts. Try Alt+Space - this combo is quite familiar among Mac OS users. Or you can examine the content of your $HOME/bin folder, change/modify/add the script with your own preferred layout and drop it into "autostart" via ~/.profile or any other acceptable way. The example could be found by: > cat ~/bin/set_us-ru_kbd_layout Q: How should i deploy this (hybrid) "iso" to the CD or USB? A: Please look in the "ISO_README" file. Q: I'm having a modern NVIDIA GPU but when i start "Ecomorph" all windows are white. Why? A: If "Ecomorph" doesn't work out from the box - you need to build the video driver from official sources (from "NVIDIA*.run" file if you've a NVIDIA GPU). Q: How can i quickly change my GTK theme/settings? Where's "lxappearance"? A: You can always edit your "~/.gtkrc*" files with your favorite text Editor. Not all programs are compiled for "openSUSE-11.2" unfortunately. P.S.:"lxappearance" added back in version "3.3.1" SOAD version 3.2.0 here is a last-minute info, which is not disclosed in "Welcome.pdf" or any other documentation shipped with SOAD-3.2.0 1. Key Bindings and Mouse Bindings E17: access to the Menu is set for a "middle" mouse button in E16/E17 if "SOAD*" profiles are selected open Menu -> Settings -> Settings Panel -> Input -> Key Bindings to adjust the current presets for kbd open Menu -> Settings -> Settings Panel -> Input -> Mouse Bindings to adjust the current presets for a mouse open Menu -> Settings -> Settings Panel -> Input -> Edje Bindings to adjust the current presets for a "mouse gestures". "SOAD*" profiles are using top-right screen corner and bottom corners E16: run "e16keyedit" to change the default properties. in "xterm" launch > eesh help full to see the all variants (options are awesome indeed) 2. USB-stick system questions: Q: I'm using the 1Gb stick and suddenly no available free space left on drive. What's going on?! A: We set for E17's "SOAD*" profiles the default keybinding: Win+S -> opens "Tracker" search window right after you press "Win+S" combination "Tracker" starts to index your documents and it could easily "fill" the free space by it's cache. some gtk2 apps could call the search engine too. run: > tracker-preferences and try to limit the database. you can kill all "tracker*" processes and erase the cache. use "lxtask" system monitor or "xterm -e htop" command or "ps aux | grep -i track"+"kill -9 PID" to find the running "tracker" instances. to clear the existing cache delete the "$HOME/.cache/tracker" folder with all content. Q: How can i update/upgrade my USB-stick SOAD to the current openSUSE? Yast/zypper report an errors when I wish to update the software... A: It's in a TODO list to create a suitable solution. This will require the compressed "read-write" filesystem if we wish to keep the tiny limit of a 1Gb for USB devices. Usage of a raw uncompressed data will significantly increase the capacity requirements. Anyway you can install the system to other media and operate as usual. Q: I manually adjusted my "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file but on the next reboot all changes are lost! ...?! A; Please read "Welcome.pdf" CONFIGURATION chapter once more... Q: I want a proprietary ATI video driver! Can you include it too? A: We will appreciate any help in adoption and testing of this solution. The ATI Open Source drivers are quickly evolving and we hope that they could satisfy your requirements sooner or later. Q: I want my USB-stick to be accessible from my Windows system. Is it possible? A: Sure. Boot from your USB with a SOAD, click on your Windows drive/partition from menu or mount it with a file manager, find the "Ext2IFS_1_11a.exe" file in the "root" "/" folder of your USB and copy to the Windows drive. Then reboot in Windows, double click on the "Ext2IFS_1_11a.exe" (it's a driver from Stephan Schreiber - http://www.fs-driver.org/index.html ), install the driver, read FAQ - http://www.fs-driver.org/faq.html - and enjoy! Q: Thanks for the driver, but i already have several partitions on my USB-stick and they contain the data I don't wanna backup/erase. Is it possible to keep my existing data on USB and deploy the SOAD to the last partition on my stick which i can sacrifice for that? A: We have a ready-to-implement solution but unfortunately it requireis some extra typing efforts during the image deployment. The universal GUI for *nix and Windows systems could be very nice for that. However our resources are limited. And some (all?!) Windows systems can operate with a USB only if it has a single fat/ntfs partition (i.e. they see only the first partition if it has a fat/nfts structure). An example - http://www.lancelhoff.com/multi-partition-a-usb-flash-drive-in-windows/ It just seems that efforts are not equal to the benefits. Backup your data, deploy SOAD, boot from USB, resize "read-write" partition with YaST/gparted, restore backups and you're done. P.S.: since version "3.3.0" we provide a hybrid images and you can try to deploy an image to the last available partition (required partition size is up to 700Mb). then you need to manage the proper boot process. please send us a detailed feedback if you successfully walked through all process. we believe that it's possible, but have no time to experiment. 3. General questions: Q: Man, I installed SOAD on my PC from LiveCD/USB, then updated the system with YaST. It sucked half of GNOME and other stuff I didn't asked about! ...?! A: Well, to begin with please read this HOWTO: http://en.opensuse.org/Bloating_prevention_tips Then you can try to set your minimal system starting from scratch. You will need the standard openSUSE DVD installation media - http://software.opensuse.org/ - or the small image for a Network installation. But probably the JeOS appliance is the best solution here - http://en.opensuse.org/LimeJeos It's easy to build a standard openSUSE JeOS LiveCD with a "kiwi" within a half an hour or so (depending on your internet bandwidth). Install a minimum system, add the "Enlightenment" repository, install E itself and then select only your preferred additional applications. Compare the results :). We do hope that the "HOWTO" was not useless... The simple "sys_update" command could be less annoying anyway. Q: Why don't you guys create a x86_64 images? A: No demand and no critical tasks which require the 64-bit systems here :). If you're running a server loaded with a heavy calculations - use openSUSE/SLE*. Q: Where can I get the cool themes for E16? A: http://themes.effx.us/ this site has a lot of valuable information too. Q: How to get a new eye candies for E17? A: To begin with: Menu -> Settings -> Theme -> Basic view -> Online Menu -> Settings -> Wallpaper -> Online Q: Can I display the content of a several folders on my E17 desktop? A: Sure, use "Drawer" module. It can be placed even on "shelf" (use it with caution!). Q: Err... E17 segfaults... ...?! A: The first public release is planned on Christmas: http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/Release http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/ReleaseSchedule The core is pretty stable for a years (if properly build and the appropriate E-svn sources are used). The segfaults are mostly due to the code of "EXTRA" modules which are not the part of a core EFL. Remove/unload the modules you don't need or the ones which cause the segv. Try the good old E16. 10 years of active development created a killer WM (E16). Though E17 already has more than a 5 years of active development behind! Q: It seems I found a bug and I can reproduce it! How can I report that? A: Browse all active tickets: http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/report/1 browse the TODO list: http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/Release Create a new ticket if your bug is not mentioned already or not highlighted in the Release Plan. Q: How can I contribute to the Enlightenment project? A: http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki "Contributing to Enlightenment" section Q: How can I contribute to the SOAD project? A: Send an email to "sda00 at himki dot net" or to the "dmitry.serpokryl at gmail dot com" with your feedback/proposals if you're interested. Thanks! to be continued... SOAD Team. */
