In short, Hyper-G is a distributed hypermedia information system designed for maintaining large quantities of documents and links. The server stores hyperlinks in a separate database, enabling consistency checking and navigational aids such as link maps. There are many more interesting features which I cannot possibly mention here. A Hyper-G server is accessible using both WWW (try for example URL http://hgiicm.tu-graz.ac.at) and Gopher clients. However, to fully exploit its potential, you need a Hyper-G client. Two such clients are available as alpha versions: Harmony (for UNIX/X11) and Amadeus (for PC/MS-Windows), as well as a VT100 terminal-mode interface. More detailed information on Hyper-G can be found under http://hyperg.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/hyperg The software itself is under ftp://ftp.iicm.tu-graz.ac.at/pub/Hyper-G in the following subdirectories: Server Hyper-G Server Installation Script UnixClient VT100 client for UNIX - installation script Harmony Harmony (the UNIX/X11 client) Document-Viewers Stand alone document viewers of Harmony Amadeus Amadeus (the PC/Windows client) VRweb VRweb (free VRML browser for Hyper-G, Mosaic & Gopher) doc Documentation on Hyper-G (mainly PostScript) talk some slides & illustrations that we use for Hyper-G talks NOTE: This directory is mirrored daily (nightly) to: (Australia) ftp://ftp.cinemedia.com.au/pub/Hyper-G (Austria) ftp://ftp.tu-graz.ac.at/pub/Hyper-G (Czech Rep.) ftp://sunsite.mff.cuni.cz/Net/Infosystems/Hyper-G (Germany) ftp://elib.ZIB-Berlin.DE/pub/InfoSystems/Hyper-G ftp://ftp.ask.uni-karlsruhe.de/pub/infosystems/Hyper-G (Italy) ftp://ftp.esrin.esa.it/pub/Hyper-G (New Zealand) ftp://cs.auckland.ac.nz/pub/Hyper-G (Portugal) ftp://ftp.ua.pt/pub/infosystems/www/Hyper-G (Spain) ftp://ftp.etsimo.uniovi.es/pub/Hyper-G (Sweden) ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Networked.Information.Retrieval/Hyper-G (UK) ftp://unix.hensa.ac.uk/mirrors/Hyper-G (USA) ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Hyper-G ftp://ftp.utdallas.edu/pub/Hyper-G There is a mailing list for information and discussion about Hyper-G. The developers and maintainers of the system inform the list about new contents and features, and are in turn interested in user feedback (such as problem reports, suggestions, wishes, and complaints). Since the list is unmoderated, please avoid sending junk mail and auto-replies to the list!
