But beware the dark side of the trend: it creates a potential obstacle to crafting a corporatewide information structure. Virtually all of these LAN-based products are incompatible with each other... Until recently, document management products, whether relating to images, text or such specialized formats as electronic data interchange (EDI), have mainly been sold as individual applications.
