There are lots of interesting topics being presented at this annual show, including sessions on SGML, HTML and the WorldWide Web. Don't miss it! Event vitals Seybold San Francisco '94 Moscone Center 13-16 September Registration: 800-488-2883 Sampler of SGML-related topics Digital Media Track * Information Superhighways for Publishers We are in the midst of building high-speed digital communications networks which may have more impact on society than any of the previous communications and transportation networks. The Internet, WorldWide Web and WAIS have all become household words in the past 12 months, proclaiming that the information superhighway is already here. This session will bring you up to date on what is happening, who the players are, who is doing what to whom, and what this could mean for you and your business. Digital Media, Electronic Authoring & Delivery Track * Internet Tools Building a following for a book or magazine published on the Internet is easier than developing channels in the traditional publishing distribution model. But the tools you'll need to create an Internet publication are only starting to mature. This session will look at the WorldWide Web, Mosaic and commercial applications for building hypermedia documents for Internet distribution. Delivery Options Track * Mosaic & HTML: Are They the Answer for Publishing? A year ago, no one had heard of them, but this year the Internet and the WorldWide Web are on everyone's minds as being the possible paradigm for publishing in the future. Mosaic, which utilizes an SGML-like language called HTML, allows you to author multimedia documents whose constituent components can be located anywhere on the Internet -- anywhere in the world. This session will focus on Mosaic and HTML and discuss what they provide -- and don't provide -- for publishers who want to take advantage of this exciting new media. SGML Track * SGML: Who Needs It? And for What? After 30 years of development and an explosive growth in its use in the market, questions still remain about SGML's role and future. Where is the market (and industry) today? What is necessary to grow the market? Where will it be in five years? What's driving the development of the next generation of SGML software? What impact will the explosive growth of the Internet have on the SGML industry? What impact, if any, will SGML have on design-driven document creation? These and other questions will be debated and discussed at what should prove to be a lively and controversial session. * SGML and/or Database: Choosing a Strategy Publishing complex documents requires an appropriate framework. For some applications, a database is the best solution. For others, a repository of SGML-encoded materials is preferable. And some applications don't need either one. Which approach is best for you? This session will help you decide. ************************************************************** * SGML NEWSWIRE LIST MANAGER * * * * Linda Turner * * Corporate Communications * * Avalanche * * 947 Walnut Street * * Boulder, CO 80302 * * sgmlinfo@avalanche.com * * linda@avalanche.com * * Vox: (303) 449-5032 * * Fax: (303) 449-3246 * **************************************************************
